Switzerland - Overview
Switzerland borders Austria in the east, Italy in the south,
France in the west and Germany in the north. You will find the
highest mountains in Europe in Switzerland, with the highest
peaks being Dufour Peak, the Dom, the Matterhorn and the Jungfrau.
The Country is small, mountainous and wealthy with a small population.
Renowned for their Swiss watches, Swiss army knives, remarkable
chocolate and cheeses, their products are very much sought after.
Politically Switzerland remains neutral and plays a central
role in European affairs. However, the country joined the United
Nations in September 2002, showing increased interest in getting
more involved in worldwide affairs.
The Swiss bank account is known to be one of the safest in Europe,
which has made Zurich a major financial hub. With its convenient
central location, Switzerland, in particular, Geneva, has become
a meeting point for international conferences and conventions
and is home to the United Nations.
The Country also has a lot of attractions for tourists and visitors,
for example in the famous ski resorts, such as St Moritz. Nightlife
is also lively in many cities and there are many sightseeing
opportunities and shopping in places like Berne.
